Local attractions

Jeju Olle Trail

Jeju Olle Trail is the way for walking travelers. We found it necessary to have a long route for only those who enjoy walking in this beautiful land, Jeju. We, then, connected broken paths, discovered forgotten paths and brought out disappeared paths that have become Jeju Olle Trail today. Figuratively speaking, traveling by cars is dotted journeys where Jeju Olle Trail is a journey of a long line.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone

Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone was created by hydrovolcanic eruptions 100,000 years ago. The peak was once an island, but it is now connected to Jeju Island, due to the sand and gravel washed ashore from Shinyang Beach. Farmers used to grow crops on it. About 200 varieties of plants and animals live on it. Udo Island is to the north and Seopjikoji is to the south. The peak is a prime spot from which to view the sunrise.

Cheonjiyeon Waterfalls

Cheonjiyeon means a pond created by "the meeting sky and land". The white column of thunderous water falling from the cliff is a magnificent sight. It is 22m in height and 12m in width. Around the waterfall are Natural Monument #163 dampalsu trees which grow naturally here and temperate plants like camellia form a dense forest. Natural Monument #27 giant mottled eel, which is active only at night, also lives here. Each year in September, the Chilsipni Festival is held here.

Daepo Jusangjeolli (Columnar Joint)

The columnar joints in the Jungmun Tourism Complex were designated as Natural Monument #433 on December 27, 2004. They look like a large folding screen with black hexagon stone pillars. When you visit here and look at the columnar joints with beautiful ocean waves crashing against them, you will be mesmerized by nature's greatness. Columnar jointing is a pillar shaped (tetragonal~hexagonal) appeared in basaltic lava flow. When thick lava (at about 1,100 degrees Celsius) flows from the mouth of a volcano and cools down drastically, columnar joints are created. The columnar joints here are 30~40m in height and extend for about 1km, the largest such structure in Korea.

Jeju Folk Village

The museum was developed through a long investigation and verification process in order to restore Jeju thatched roof houses and artifacts from the end of the Joseon Dynasty and 1890s to their proper form. We have over 100 traditional houses and 8,000 folk items, including living equipment, agricultural tools, fishing tools, furniture and stone works. Our goal is to preserve and restore the cultural traditions of Jeju.
